The Spear is a weapon type in the Disgaea series. While they are generally weaker than Swords, they allow the user to attack from up to two spaces away. Spear abilities vary greatly, often containing at least one skill that targets all adjacent enemies, and almost all of them shift the user after an attack.

Disgaea: Hour of DarknessEdit

"The spear is another popular weapon. While normal attacks with a spear are a bit weak, you have the advantage of being able to attack from 2 panels away. The Special Techniques learned with a spear generally have a short range, but the area of effect varies. Furthermore, some techniques allow you to change your position."
   —Longinus

Spears don't change much over the course of the series, and Disgaea: Hour of Darkness is no exception. Spears use ATK for damage. Etna has 'A' Weapon Mastery in Spears and Axes.

Disgaea 2: Cursed MemoriesEdit

"The spear is the next most popular weapon after swords. The greatest advantage of the spear is being able to attack someone 2 spaces away from you. Since you can attack away from the enemy, you can team attack and combo from the same space. The spear can also block attacks from the front, which is another trait of the spear. (*Blocks only occur from frontal attack) Another merit of the spear is that your defense (DEF) also increases. Skills that you can learn with spear weapon mastery may change your position after using the skill. The spear is a weapon that makes battle tactic variations more plentiful."
   —Adell's Father

Disgaea 2: Cursed Memories doesn't alter anything. Spears still use ATK, and no major characters are highly proficient in them.

Disgaea 3: Absence of JusticeEdit

"The Spear is the next easiest weapon to use, after the Sword. The greatest advantage to using a Spear is that you can attack an opponent who is two panels away. Since you can attack the enemy from a distance, it is good for doing team and combo attacks at the same time. Another merit of equipping a Spear is that it increases defense (DEF). Know that many of the Spear's unique weapon skills will move the position of the character that uses it. The Spear will give you a plethora of battle tactic variations. Please try them out."
   —Zommie V

The Spear returns as a weapon type in Disgaea 3: Absence of Justice. Spears boost both Attack and Defense while also giving a character a 2-panel basic attack radius. Valkyries, Beastmasters and Armor Knights have the ability to use them. Asuka Cranekick primarily uses Spears.

Disgaea 4: A Promise UnforgottenEdit

"The Spear is the next easiest weapon to use, after the Sword. The greatest advantage to using a Spear is that you can attack an opponent who is two panels away. Since you can attack the enemy from a distance, it is good for doing Team and Combo Attacks at the same time. Another merit of equipping a Spear is that it increases defense (DEF). Know that many of the Spear's unique Weapon Skills will move the position of the character that uses it. The Spear will give you a plethora of battle tactic variations. Please try them out."
   —Zommie, Jr.

In Disgaea 4: A Promise Unforgotten, Spears function the same as their Disgaea 3 counterparts. They often hit enemies surrounding the user and move him/her from their original position.

Disgaea 5: Alliance of VengeanceEdit

"Spears are a little different, but still recommended for their ease of use. Their greatest feature is that they can attack from two panels away, making it harder for enemies to counter attack. Since they can attack from a distance, they can join team attacks and combos with a single Execute. They will also attack enemies between you and your target, allowing you to attack multiple enemies at once. Another feature is that equipping a Spear also increases your DEF. You should also remember that Spear Weapon Skills can hit multiple enemies at once. Spears offer a variety of ways to fight. You should try one out."
