Paralysis is a staple Status Ailment in RPGs and appears in all Nippon Ichi games. Paralyzed characters are unable to move, and from Disgaea 2 onwards, causes the character's SPD to be reduced to 1, but can perform actions such as attacking and using items. The ailment is often caused by attacks of an electrical nature. Like all ailments, it can be cured by using the spell Espoir or the Fairy Dust item.
A character inflicted with paralysis will have white-with-black-outlines lightning-bolts above their head.
Two Specialists deal with the Paralysis ailment. These specialists are present in all Disgaea games.
- The Medicine Man increases resistance against Paralysis, and also decreases the number of turns a character will spend with paralysis.
- Note: Due to a possible reference error in Disgaea: Hour of Darkness, the Social Worker increases Paralysis resistance, whereas the Medicine Man correctly increases Paralysis resistance in later games.
- The Witch Doctor increases the chance that Paralysis will be inflicted to a character through a normal attack.
