Gun Attack

Attack animation with Gun.

The Gun is a type of Weapon in the Disgaea series. They have the longest attack range of any weapon, but can only target units on a straight line. Their damage scales with the average of HIT and SPD (only HIT in the first two games), and their attacks and skills inflict a SPD debuff.

Disgaea: Hour of Darkness[]

"Guns have the longest range of all the weapons. Normal attack damage is based on a character's Hit stat. The Special Techniques learned with a gun have a very long range. Special Technique damage is also dependent on a character's Hit stat."
   —Longinus

Unlike the rest of the franchise, in this game Guns have unrestricted range and depend only on the HIT stat. To compensate for this, they have a 25% reduction to all damage done. Their skills have good power but only hit single target. Gordon is proficient with Guns, as well as the Thief, Strider and EDF Soldier classes.

Disgaea 2: Cursed Memories[]

"The gun is the longest range weapon. For normal attacks, its characteristic is having high accuracy (HIT) to apply damage to the opponent. No matter how high you raise the attack power (ATK), it doesn't affect the usage of the gun, so watch for that. Sometimes when you use a gun to attack, it may add an extra effect that lowers the opponent's speed (SPD). If the enemy is too quick, first attack them with a gun and lower their speed, and then continue with a combo to defeat it easily. Also the gun has a longer range than the bow, but can only attack in a straight line. Plan your battle tactics carefully. Most skills that you learn from gun weapon mastery shoot a long distance. Skills also depend on your accuracy (HIT) to damage enemies. Also, some skills can add an effect that lowers the speed (SPD) of the opponent. It seems you're good with the gun, Rozalin, so you should equip glasses when you use the gun to increase accuracy."
   —Adell's Father

This game introduces their straight line-only range restriction, as well as the SPD debuff on their attacks. Rozalin specializes in Guns, as well as the Thief and Gunner class.

Disgaea 3: Absence of Justice[]

"The Gun is the weapon with the longest range. Accuracy (HIT) and speed (SPD) will affect the damage dealt from a Gun's normal attack. Be aware that even if you raise ATK, it will have no effect on the damage dealt when using a Gun. It has the longest range of all weapons, being able to attack up to 5 panels in a straight line. The gun's weapon skills are, like normal attacks, long distance. And like the normal attacks, HIT and SPD will affect the damage dealt by skills to the enemy. It might be a good idea to equip Glasses or Shoes when equipping a Gun. Also, some unique weapon skills of the Gun can have the effect of lowering the opponent's SPD. Used well, you can use the tactic to stop a quick enemy's movement."
   —Zommie V

From this game onward, Gun damage depends on the average of the user's HIT and SPD. While this makes it harder to increase their damage, it also means Gun users now gain extra SPD. The Thief, Gunner and Gunslinger classes specialize in Guns.

Disgaea 4: A Promise Unforgotten[]

"The Gun is the weapon with the longest range. Accuracy (HIT) and speed (SPD) will affect the damage dealt from a Gun's normal attack. Be aware that even if you raise ATK, it will have no effect on the damage dealt when using a Gun. It has the longest range of all weapons, being able to attack up to 5 panels in a straight line. The Gun's Weapon Skills are, like its normal attacks, long distance.

Disgaea 5: Alliance of Vengeance[]

"Guns have the longest range of any weapon. Their normal attacks are based on HIT and SPD. Keep in mind that when using Guns, your ATK will not affect the damage at all. Although they have the longest range, they can only attack in straight lines. Unlike with the Bow, you can only attack enemies within range on a straight range. Gun Weapon Skills work just like their normal attacks. Like their normal attacks, their weapon skills are based on HIT and SPD. That means that Guns are probably best when paired up with Glasses and Shoes. They also have the effect of lowering the SPD of their target. By using them wisely, you'll be able to slow down your faster enemies."
