Deprave is one of the Status Ailment that can be inflicted upon the characters. The symbol used to describe is a dark swirl above the head. The word Deprave is defined as a person being morally corrupt or perverted. The ailment typically lowers characters stats by around 10%-15% and causes the character to be unable to gain EXP when defeating foes. Enemies inflicted with deprave will still give EXP points to the character(s) who landed the killing blow, however. Furthermore, the spells and attacks that cause the Deprave ailment are often sexual or flirtatious ones like the Charm Spell or Etna's Sexy Beam special attack, but attacks of a dark nature such as the Dragon Zombie's Darkness Breath special attack are just as capable of inflicting Deprave as well. The Succubus characters can also gain an Evility in Disgaea 3: Absence of Justice that adds the Deprave effect to their Normal Attacks. Specialists can be added to weapons to increase the chances of Deprave on the enemy that is hit.

Deprave in the Disgaea franchise is not related to the ailment in other RPGs often called Charmed. Charmed tends to cause a different effect, often making the inflicted automatically attack their friends but not the enemies.

When Disgaea 2 came out, Deprave became noticeably stronger, also cutting the stats of the inflicted by twenty percent. This effect was carried over into Disgaea 3.

SpecialistsEdit

Two Specialists deal with the Deprave ailment. These specialists are present in all Disgaea games.

  • Having a Social Worker on any equipment increases a characters ability to resist and fight off the deprave status by 1% per unsubdued level.
  • Note: Due to a possible reference error in Disgaea: Hour of Darkness, the Medicine Man increases deprave resistance, whereas the Social Worker correctly increases deprave resistance in later games.
  • Having a Gangster on any equipment increases a character's ability to inflict depravity to enemies (through normal attacks only), by 1% per level.
